Apachi Prayer

Full moon rising over San Agustinillo, Mexico

May the sun bring you new energy by day
May the moon softly restore you by night
May the rain wash away your worries
May the breeze blow new strength into your being
May you walk gently through the world
And know its beauty all the days of your life.

Apachi Prayer

My lovely Aunt Mary sent me this beautiful poem for my birthday last month. I wanted to share its grace and wisdom with you.

little white egret

San Agustinillo, Mexico
little white egret

like a marble statue,
she graces the jagged black-brown rock
at the edge of the shore
Pacific waves crashing around her

the little white egret
faces the rising morning sun
wrapped in a blanket of misty salt air

she’s a prayer of hope
as she stretches her neck
a giraffe foraging for food
then tucking her heard
into her body, nearly neck-less
searching the clear blue waters
for the minnows that would be breakfast

watching, an intrusion
on her beautiful new day, and so
she floats off into the sun through the clouds
over the foamy waves
and all the delicacies swimming below

Maybe this year I’ll be able to catch a photo of one of the little white egrets!

vibrant and promising

sunrise on San Agustinillo
Vibrant and Promising

The darkness disappears
into a palette of soft pink and orange
as the golden globe of the sun
crawls from the ground of the horizon
into the sea of the sky, throwing her light
 at the clouds above
and the sea below, and everything opens
 in rainbow, vibrant and promising

I wrote this poem in January when I was in Mexico escaping the winter cold. I am beginning to anticipate another escape and the vibrancy and promise of warm January days in the new year…
