Being the moon

Rumi said, look at the moon,
how it grows brighter
as it patiently tolerates
the dark night.
Oh, that I could be a moon
shining brightly,
even as darkness is growing,
to be luminous and glowing,
so open and full
that hopes and dreams
are offered to me.
How I would hold them
in the softness of my palm,
wrap them all in calm stillness,
set them free into the realm of possibility
where the sun carries them into being.

If you love the moon as I do, you might be interested in another poem I wrote: the moon speaking.

the energy at your core

The Energy at Your Core

When the world around you
seems to be pushing you
down,
let the energy at your core
give you strength to stand
tall.
Invite your heart to emanate
with love,
lifting you with confidence.
In your mind’s eye,
spread your arms
wide,
opening to understanding.
Feel the blood of compassion
flowing through you,
radiating positive energy.
Open to the grounding power
of your essence:
a bright and beautiful light.

I wrote this poem for a friend, in support of her finding her strength and confidence, so that she can easily flow through work challenges and bring her best self to her work and her life. She is an amazing woman who inspires me. I love how our conversations flow and come together with such beautiful wisdom for us both. May you find a spark of truth in this poem for yourself, too.

create a brighter world

Baltimore Ireland - White Donkey in the rain

Hearing to listen
Listening to understand
Understanding to act
Acting to create a brighter world

Have you ever noticed how you feel when you really listen to someone else? You know, when you are lost in their experience, totally immersed in what they are thinking, feeling, seeing. When I am ‘over there with another’, I feel alive and my heart is happy. I may be projecting but it seems when I set myself aside, I make the world a little brighter for whoever I am with.

* I took this photo in Baltimore, Ireland. The rain had stopped, sun was trying to break through the clouds, and this fella was listening attentively to my every word – and brightened my world.
