turning the soil
digging into the dirt
i turn the soil over
to expose rich depths of earth
longing to affirm the life of the seedling
and grateful to color the landscape a gorgeous green
This little poem was inspired by the lawn refurbishing my husband Jim and I have been focused on this summer. After successfully ridding the yard of weeds (that had begun to take over after two working people neglected things for years), we turned our attention to filling the resulting grass-less spots with fresh new grass. It was a lot of work preparing the soil, putting down and watering the seed…and the reward was joy inspiring! The photo above was taken several days after the labors of soil prep and seed planting. The photo below shows even more progress.
